Testing & Fault Finding

Cable Testing & Fault Finding in Essex & London

Whether it's a new installation that needs proving or an existing network that keeps playing up, we test copper and fibre and track down faults fast — NetAlly performance testing for copper, OTDR and loss testing for fibre, with clear reports you can keep.

What's included

  • NetAlly performance testing of Cat5e, Cat6 & Cat6a (up to 10Gb)
  • OTDR testing of single-mode & multimode fibre
  • Fibre loss testing (light source & power meter)
  • Fault finding on copper and fibre
  • Cable tracing & identification
  • Test reports for warranties & handover

Real performance testing, not just a quick check

A basic tester only shows that the wires are connected. Our NetAlly testers go further — measuring length, wiremap and whether each link can actually carry 1Gb, 2.5Gb, 5Gb or 10Gb — and saving a report for every outlet, so you know each one performs.

OTDR: seeing inside the fibre

An OTDR fires pulses of light down the fibre and measures what reflects back. The trace shows every connector, splice, bend and break along the link, and how far away each one is — so we can prove splice quality on new installs and pinpoint faults on existing ones to within metres.

Fault finding

Dropping connections, slow links, dead outlets or cameras that keep going offline are often cabling faults in disguise. We trace and test to find the cause — damaged cable, poor terminations, breaks or mis-patching — then fix it or give you a clear report.

FAQs

Testing & Fault Finding questions

What's the difference between NetAlly testing and a basic cable test?+

A basic tester only checks the wires are connected in the right order. NetAlly testing measures what speed each link can actually support (up to 10Gb) and records a pass/fail report for every link, so you have proof the installation performs.

What does an OTDR test show?+

An OTDR trace shows the full length of a fibre, including the loss at every connector and splice and the exact distance to any break or bad bend. It's the best way to prove a fibre install or find a fault.

Can you test cabling someone else installed?+

Yes. We regularly test and audit existing cabling — for example before moving into new premises, or when a network has unexplained problems.
